La secretaria de Turismo de la Municipalidad de Ushuaia, Viviana Manfredotti, destacó la importancia del Día del Turismo Antártico Argentino, el que fue establecido por el concejo deliberante en conmemoración del Primer viaje de turismo a la Antártida Argentina que partió desde Ushuaia.
Ushuaia, “como puerta de entrada marítima a la Antártida, es la ciudad más activa a partir de los años ’90, representando el 90 % del tránsito mundial de buques de turismo antártico aproximadamente”, aseguró la funcionaria.
Indico que durante la temporada 2023/202, “se contabilizaron 173.211 cruceristas en el Puerto de Ushuaia, 21 % más que la temporada anterior y 99.359 tripulante. Es importante destacar el rol del Aeropuerto Internacional Malvinas Argentinas, ya que ha incidido en el incremento de arribos aéreos. Y en particular, teniendo en cuenta la corta distancia que separa Ushuaia de la Península Antártica, ha permitido a las operadoras turísticas ampliar la frecuencia de viajes durante la temporada turística.”
La ciudad de Ushuaia “constituye la principal base de operaciones, como puerto base y en menor medida como puerto de escala, inicio o fin del itinerario a la Antártida”, explicó.
El Primer viaje de turismo a la Antártida Argentina partió desde Ushuaia el 16 de enero de 1958 con 98 pasajeros a bordo del buque ARA Les Eclaireurs al mando del capitán de corbeta Eduardo G. Llosa visitando los Destacamentos Navales Decepción, Teniente Cámara en la bahía Luna, Jubany (actual base Carlini) en caleta Potter, Almirante Brown y Melchior. El grupo de pasajeros que formó parte del viaje puso una placa conmemorativa en la casa principal del Destacamento Decepción por ser el primer lugar de la Antártida donde desembarcaron.
