Se accidentó un suboficial de la Armada Argentina sufriendo múltiples fracturas, presentando un cuadro grave con pronóstico reservado. En la isla Laurie, asiento de la nombrada base, no existe pista de aterrizaje. Los efectivos son relevados anualmente en las campañas de verano realizadas por el Rompehielos Almirante Irizar y buques polares de apoyo. Ante la gravedad del cuadro se dispuso dar apoyo mediante lanzamientos de cargas con insumos de sanidad (oxígeno, material quirúrgico y otros elementos) desde un avión Hércules. Hoy se ejecutó la evacuación mediante avión biturbo hélice Twin Otter de la Base Marambio.

Ante la falta de pista de aterrizaje, la pequeña aeronave realizó la peligrosa maniobra de aterrizar sobre un glaciar adyacente. Una operación extrema necesaria para la evacuación del efectivo naval accidentado. Hoy es un día histórico ya que es la primera vez que aterriza un avión Twin Otter en la base Orcadas. Se operó con vuelo semi nocturno desde Marambio, teniendo en cuenta las pocas horas de luz solar dado por el invierno antártico. Nuestro reconocimiento a nuestros pilotos antárticos, que arriesgan sus vidas para el rescate de un camarada antártico. Labor abnegada y silenciosa que mantiene la hidalguía demostrada desde siempre. Viva la Patria y felicitaciones Gastón Valussi y Pablo Biolatto pilotos que hoy hicieron historia en nuestra querida Antártida Argentina.
