Defensa cancela el radar de EE.UU. y Gran Bretaña en Tierra del Fuego: «Es un riesgo para la seguridad», con un documento técnico de las Fuerzas Armadas que entregará hoy a la Casa Rosada, el ministerio de Defensa que comanda Jorge Taiana advierte que «hay riesgos para la soberanía» sobre las Malvinas. Los nexos de la empresa LeoLabs y por qué lo había autorizado Juan Manzur.
Por medio de un detallado informe técnico que se entregará en las próximas horas a la jefatura de Gabinete, el Ministerio de Defensa ordenó la «cancelación definitiva» de un radar instalado en Tierra del Fuego por la empresa Leo Labs de capitales norteamericanos y de Gran Bretaña por un motivo concreto: el proyecto «afecta severamente la soberanía» de la Argentina en las islas Malvinas y el Atlántico Sur.
Según confiaron fuentes calificadas de la Casa Rosada el Ministerio de Defensa que conduce Jorge Taiana con el aporte técnico de las Fuerzas Armadas, el INVAP y la Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (Conae) redactó un informe en el que asegura que el radar que había instalado en la localidad fueguina de Tolhuin la empresa Leo Labs «es un riesgo para la seguridad nacional».
El documento que Defensa entregará hoy al jefe de Gabinete, Agustín Rossi, ordena taxativamente cancelar el proyecto de Leo Labs en Tierra del Fuego y se elevó luego de la polémica que se desató hace más de un mes cuando el mismo ministro Taiana y legisladores de la oposición denunciaron que la compañía británico-estadounidense podría afectar la soberanía de Malvinas.
Allí se encomendó analizar el tema y elevar un documento técnico. Ayer se terminó de redactar el informe en el que se advierte que los radares de la empresa Leo Labs estarían en condiciones técnicas de transmitir información y filtrar datos sensibles para la seguridad nacional. A la vez, se detalla en el informe de Defensa que la compañía podría tener nexos con servicios de inteligencia de Gran Bretaña y de la OTAN.
El informe de Defensa añade un documento de la Inspección General de Justicia de Tierra del Fuego en donde consta que la empresa en cuestión está radicada con domicilio en Londres y en Dublin. El gobernador de Tierra del Fuego, Gustavo Melella aseguró que la empresa en cuestión es de Estados Unidos y «no tiene funciones militares sino que monitorea la basura espacial y vende esos servicios a diferentes programas».
Sin embargo, el Ministerio de Defensa opina lo contrario. Asegura que los radares tienen capacidades para interferir comunicaciones y la información de las Fuerzas Armadas. Por pedido de Defensa, la Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones y Conectividad ya había decidido suspender los efectos de la Disposición N° 8/22, a través de la cual se autorizó con carácter precario a la empresa Leo Labs a instalar y poner en funcionamiento una Estación Terrena en Banda S, con el fin de rastrear y monitorear objetos en ambiente LEO (Low Earth Orbit).
El senador radical de Tierra del Fuego, Pablo Blanco, había alertado también que el radar de Leo Labs ya estuvo en funcionamiento con 512 antenas individuales sin ningún movimiento mecánico, operando en Banda S (2910 -2990 MHz), una potencia de transmisión máxima de 100 W con un ciclo de trabajo de 20%, correspondiente a una potencia pico de 51,2 kW y una potencia media de 10,24 kW. En aquel momento, por medio de la resolución DI-2023-14 el ministro de Defensa, Jorge Taiana, en acuerdo con el canciller Santiago Cafiero dispuso la suspensión de la autorización que el 15 de noviembre del 2022 emitió el entonces jefe de Gabinete, Juan Manzur.
Aquella autorización le permitía a la empresa LeoLabs (VER), de capitales norteamericanos y de Gran Bretaña, instalar una «estación terrena en Banda S» en Ushuaia. Pero ahora, con el informe técnico en mano se ordenó la «cancelación definitiva» del proyecto.
Según confirmaron fuentes calificadas de la Casa Rosada, en el Ministerio de Defensa entendieron que la empresa LeoLabs tendría, en base a documentación publicada por la Inspección General de Justicia, una sede en Ushuaia con sociedades asociadas en Irlanda y el Reino Unido. Así, aclararon que esto atentaría contra la defensa de la soberanía de la Argentina en las islas Malvinas.
«La revisión de documentación llevó al Ministerio de Defensa y a la Cancillería a evaluar el riesgo de que una empresa con conexiones con el Reino Unido se instale en Tierra del Fuego para manejar información sensible en una zona cercana a las islas Malvinas ocupadas ilegalmente por Gran Bretaña», explicó un destacado funcionario del Gobierno que en las últimas horas siguió el tema con el ministro Taiana y el canciller Cafiero. También se analizó que los radares de alto alcance están a 500 km de distancia de las Islas Malvinas, un «territorio ocupado por una potencia extranjera que a su vez es aliada de quien está interesado en colocar esas antenas», dijeron en el Gobierno.
Además, se supo que cuando Manzur tomó la decisión de avanzar con el proyecto de LeoLabs el ministro Taiana había solicitado que se pidiera la opinión del Ministerio de Defensa que no había sido consultado en relación al proyecto.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. Nevertheless think of if you added some great visuals or video clips to give your posts more, «pop»!
