El registro llevado a cabo desde el 1 de enero hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2021 arrojó el alarmante promedio de 1 femicidio cada 30 horas: 289 femicidios en total, cifra que incluye 241 femicidios directos, 24 vinculados (16 niños/hombres, 7 niñas/mujeres y una persona trans), 9 personas Trans y 15 suicidios feminicidas.
El Observatorio de Femicidios de la Defensoría del Pueblo de la Nación fue el primer registro de femicidios de Argentina en incluir y desarrollar el concepto de suicidios feminicidas e insiste en visibilizarlos. Se producen cuando las mujeres se quitan la vida como consecuencia de los abusos sistemáticos y la violencia de género que vivieron.
La cantidad de suicidios feminicidas se ha incrementado desde que se comenzó con su registro, en 2019 y 2020 se detectaron 5 casos de suicidio feminicida cada año, mientras que en 2021, los 15 suicidios feminicidas ya mencionados.
Desde el primer informe publicado en 2017 hasta el actual de 2021, Argentina acumula un total de 1358 Femicidios, Femicidios Vinculados de mujeres y niñas, Suicidios Feminicidas y Transfemicidios; y 79 Femicidios Vinculados de varones adultos y niños. A su vez, 881 hijas e hijos menores se quedaron sin madre.
Los datos evidencian que el aislamiento por la pandemia del Covid-19 generó un impacto significativo en el aumento de femicidios en comparación con los registros de los años anteriores, y del año posterior. En el informe se puede observar la evolución del fenómeno durante los años y tendencia sostenida en el tiempo indica que el lugar más inseguro para las mujeres es su propio domicilio, y la situación de confinamiento de la víctima con su victimario llevó a las mujeres a quedar atrapadas con su propio agresor.
Durante el 2021, en el 65% de los casos, el hecho ocurrió en la vivienda de la víctima, el domicilio compartido con el victimario o en un entorno familiar; y el femicida fue en el 51% de los asesinatos la pareja o expareja. Solo el 12% de las víctimas no conocía a su victimario.
A pesar de que algunas de estas mujeres habían tenido acceso a la justicia, ya que 44 de ellas habían realizado al menos una denuncia por violencia de género, igualmente fueron asesinadas.
Se detectaron 32 víctimas menores de 18 años, 3 de esas niñas y adolescentes se suicidaron en un contexto de violencia de género, es decir fueron víctimas de suicidios feminicidas.
Con respecto a las modalidades, todas reflejan el ensañamiento en la violencia empleada para asesinar a las mujeres por el hecho de ser mujer. De las 289 víctimas de femicidio, 26 fueron violadas. El uso de armas de fuego y el apuñalamiento fueron los métodos más empleados.
En cuanto a la distribución geográfica, el mapeo del relevamiento indica que Santiago del Estero encabeza la lista de provincias con más femicidios en proporción con la cantidad de habitantes, seguida por La Rioja, Tucumán, Chaco y Formosa. Es decir, el mapa enciende sus alarmas más fuertes en el norte del país.
