El próximo sábado 30 de noviembre, 35 nadadores de Argentina y Chile se enfrentarán a uno de los mayores retos del deporte en aguas abiertas: el cruce del Canal Beagle en relevos. Este desafío extremo, que abarca más de 15 kilómetros entre Puerto Navarino (Chile) y el Puerto de Ushuaia (Argentina), conmemora los 40 años del Tratado de Paz firmado entre ambas naciones.
El evento, organizado por Nadando Argentina y respaldado por la Cancillería Argentina y el Gobierno de Tierra del Fuego, tiene como objetivo promover el espíritu de unión y cooperación entre ambos países a través del deporte. «Este evento es más que un desafío deportivo. Es un mensaje de paz y cooperación en un mundo que necesita más unión. Es un honor ver a nadadores argentinos y chilenos enfrentando juntos este reto, demostrando que el deporte trasciende fronteras», destacó Matías Ola, presidente de Nadando Argentina.
Los participantes, expertos en natación de invierno, nadarán sin traje de neopreno, enfrentando las bajas temperaturas y las fuertes corrientes del Canal Beagle. En un formato de relevos, cada nadador tendrá un tiempo máximo de 7 minutos o 500 metros en el agua, pasando el testigo a su compañero de equipo, siguiendo un reglamento similar al de cruces icónicos como el Canal de la Mancha o el Estrecho de Gibraltar.
El operativo logístico será de gran envergadura y contará con el apoyo de diversas instituciones. La Armada Argentina, la Prefectura Naval Argentina y las autoridades marítimas de Chile, junto a la colaboración de los puertos de Puerto Williams y Ushuaia, garantizarán la seguridad de los nadadores. Además, el Catamarán Yaghan de la empresa Tolkeyen servirá como base principal para los nadadores y el equipo de asistencia. También se contará con la embarcación Akawaia del Hotel Los Cauquenes, que brindará soporte y transporte para medios de prensa y autoridades.
Este evento no solo resalta el valor de la resistencia física y mental, sino también la importancia de la colaboración entre naciones vecinas, convirtiéndolo en una celebración única de amistad y deporte.
