El gobierno nacional informó que la próxima semana empezarán a vacunar a menores de 12 a 17 años con factores de riesgo. Según calculan, se trata de 900 mil jóvenes a los que se les aplicarán las dosis de Moderna donadas por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos.
La decisión fue adoptada luego de que la Agencia Europea de Medicamentos habilitara las vacunas de ese laboratorio norteamericano para ser aplicadas en menores de edad. La ANMAT tiene el mismo convenio de reciprocidad con la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos de los Estados Unidos (FDA por sus siglas en inglés) que con la agencia europea.
La decisión estratégica del Gobierno nacional de tener en el centro logístico de Andreani durante 7 días las 3.500.000 de vacunas Moderna donadas por los EEUU fue acertada”, aseguraron voceros del Poder Ejecutivo.
Y explicaron: “El próximo martes, en reunión del COFESA, los ministros de Salud de todo el país se definirán los grupos y la estrategia de implementación y formalizarán el inicio de la vacunación para este grupo priorizado en todo el país. Se comenzará a vacunar adolescentes entre 12 y 17 con comorbilidades, población estimada en 900.000 personas”.
La ministra de Salud de la Nación, Carla Vizzotti, había anticipado que había gran expectativa por esta autorización, para comenzar con la siguiente etapa del plan de vacunación, que incluye a los menores de edad de entre 12 y 17 años.
“La vacuna Moderna tiene ensayos clínicos eficientes y es muy similar a la de Pfizer, tiene la misma plataforma. Por eso se reservan para aplicarlas prioritariamente a los menores de edad con comorbilidades. Si contamos obesidad, cardiopatía, diabetes, enfermedad neurológica, ese grupo llega a casi 900.000″, indicó la funcionaria en declaraciones a Radio 10.
Con esta decisión Argentina se encuentra entre los pocos países que iniciaron esta estrategia como Estados Unidos, Canadá, China, Chile, Israel, Alemania, Francia, Italia, Hungría, Polonia, Rumania, Singapur y Dubái.
La vacuna de la compañía Moderna contra COVID-19 funciona a través de tecnología del ARN mensajero al igual que la de Pfizer/BioNTech. Los ensayos clínicos en ambas candidatas mostraron su gran eficacia.
